General Information

The Collaboration Kit Trio 8800 extends the known Polycom conference telephone in a modular builded system, which can be used for audiovisual communication with parallel data presentations.

The available bandwidth of the purpose is great. Real audio conferences, extended audio conferences with a parallel transmission of data transmission or video conferences with audio visual communication and optional data presentation are in principle possible.

For the video conference up to FullHD with 30 fps, Skype for Business or SIP can be choosed as basis. The data transmission is possible by cable as well as via bluetooth.

Scope of delivery

The system will be delivered with the conference telephone Polycom Real Presence Trio, the data presentationbox Real Presence Trio Visual + and a FullHD Logitech C930e webcam with all necessary cables for the basis operation.

Installation

There is no problem to set up all components. For the conference telephone and the data presentationbox Visual + the connection to the network has to be from the same subnet with integrated PoE. The camera will be connected via USB to the Visual +, and the computer will be connected via Bluetooth or USB with the conference telephone.

The initial start-up is also easily performed when the network fulfils the conditions which is implicitly required by the producer for the technical specification. Unfortunately the conditions from the producer could not be found.

Only the conference telephone has a interface which can be controlled by a touchscreen. The Visual + does not has a interface, it will be controlled by the telephone. This is only possible when the pairing of these both subsystems was successful. The components Trio and Visual + are trying firstly to obtain a DHCP address after the initial launch. The connection of both subsystems is principally only possible, when both are using the same subnet. The telephone can also get a static IP via the integrated control panel, the Visual + can only get a IP address via the web interface. The web interface is immediately available when both obtained a DHCP address and if they are reachable via the laptops.Only 2 CA`s possible

A integration into the available WLAN is also well adjustable via the web interface. Unfortunately it is only possible to enter 2 CA (Certification Authority) for by certificate secured WLAN (like eduroam). For some cerfitcate chains it is not enough, so that not every WLAN is usable in practice.

The usage of the system for data presentations is only possible by adding a laptop. This laptop has to use the software "People + Content" and has to be linked with the Trio 8800 (see under test scenario 3 and 4 in the following section).

Test

Time of testing : April 2018

Test scenario 1: Video conference via connection to an OpenSIP-server.

For the coupling there has to be built up a certificate chain between the Trio 8800 and the OpenSIP server, which has to show a compliant common name of the client certifacte on both sides. At the test the requirements were not attainable very quickly. Thus the settings verify_cert and require_cert were deactivated on the side of the SIP-server, to get a connection to the Trio8800 without client-certifcate. After this, the base profile of the Trio has to be changed to "generic", so that the authentication can be done via credentials and via TLS through the Port 5061.

The connection set-up via the SIP-server worked easily after this in both call directions. H.264 with 4 Mbps in FullHD and a very good quality was used for the video channel. Also the connection to the DFN-MCU were in the beste quality. Data presentations could be transmitted via BFCP.

Test scenario 2: Video conference via connection with a Skype for Business - Server

The login shall be made via the server address, domain name and credentials. The necessary technical settings have to be set up before the at the Trio under the point [SIP-server].

After the connection set-up from Skype for Business to the Trio are four different layouts on the side of the Trio 8800 possible. There are various combinations of - picture of the opposite side, the own picture and content transmission - possible. The quality of all channels is very good.

At the call from the Trio to the S4B client is no content transmission possible. On the side of the Trio appears a error message, meaning that the content only can be realized by using an additional laptop and the dialing with it as an additional participant in the conference.

Test scenario 3: Usage of the Trio 8800 as an audio device for a video conference on the laptop (pairing via Bluetooth)

At this pairing the device Visual+ is not reasonably usable. The Trio 8800 will be configured at the video conference system (for example- Polycom Real Presence) as an input and output device for the audio and can be used directly afterwards. The quality of the audio transmission is in both directions very good. The range of the microphone is about 6 meters (also when there is no direct sound).

Test scenario 4: Usage of the Trio 8800 as an audio device for video conferences on the latop (pairing via USB)

At this pairing the device Visual+ is not reasonably usable. The program "People+Content" have to be stopped, to make the usage of the audio channel possible. The Trio 8800 will be configured at the video conference system (for example- Polycom Real Presence) as an input and output device for the audio and can be used directly afterwards. The output sound is a little bit louder as at the pairing with Bluetooth. The quality of the audio transmission is in both directions very good. The range of the microphone is about 6 meters (also when there is no direct sound).

Conclusion

The Collaboration Kit Trio 8800 indicates convincing good properties in the field of audio and video. Thus is the usage of it ideally suited for small and middle size conference rooms. The possible application scenarios are diverse, also the necessary configuration possibilities. Their handling is via web interface very simple and fully available.

In contrast to that, are the stare and undocumented specifications for the initial setup of the system, which perhaps takes a long time.
